Trinity Produces One of Its Finest-Ever CAS Championships Performances
The 2026 CAS Track & Field Championships produced one of the closest and highest-quality Championships in recent memory. Trinity Grammar School ultimately finished second overall on 656.5 points, just six points behind Waverley College after a premiership race that remained undecided until the final relay events.
Trinity made a fast start and held the early lead through the jumps and Javelin that it would maintain for most of the Championships. Anson V helped secure the 13 Years High Jump teams title and also leapt beyond the existing 13 Years CAS Long Jump Record while competing in an older age group. Joel P helped Trinity secure victories in both the 14 and 15 Years High Jump team competitions, while Ethan M won the 17 Years Long Jump and Luke W contributed across multiple age groups. At the Javelin runway, Oceania Medallist Thomas B delivered one of the performances of the Championships, winning the Open title with 61.44m before returning later in the evening to break both the CAS and School Records with a throw of 65.47m in the 17 Years event.
The throws squad continued to drive Trinity’s premiership challenge. Athan F won the 16 Years Javelin on his final throw of the competition, while Gregory T claimed the 15 Years Discus, combined with V Singh for the Teams title and set a new School Record in the 15 Years Javelin. Sebastian T also established a new School Record in the 14 Years Javelin, while Rohan D delivered a breakthrough performance in the 17 Years Shot Put and then secured the Open teams victory alongside Jozef C.
As the afternoon progressed, Trinity remained at the top of the standings, with strong contributions across every event. The distance squad maintained Trinity’s momentum with Alexander M winning the 1500m, Patrick M claiming the 17 Years 800m before adding the 16 Years 1500m. James E won the 15 Years Division 800m and Lachlan W also impressed competing two age groups above his own across three events.
With the premiership battle approaching its decisive stages, 2026 World U20 Silver Medallist, Mason M, delivered the sort of performance that kept Trinity firmly in the contest, breaking his own CAS and School Record in the Open Long Jump with a leap of 7.69m before winning the Open 100m and Open 200m and clearing 1.85m in the Open High Jump, the equal highest of the day.
The sprinters and hurdlers continued to bank valuable points on the track throughout the afternoon, highlighted by victories to Hugo S, William S, Eddie H and Tristiarne Thorne while five out of six 400m runners produced personal bests.
With the premiership race still hanging in the balance entering the final events, every point mattered. After leading for much of the afternoon, Trinity faced a huge challenge from Waverley in the 400m and relay events, with the destination of the Andrew Reid Challenge Cup remaining uncertain right to the finish.
Trinity’s 16 Years 4 x 100m quartet of William H, Ethan M, Tim S-C and Claudio L produced one of the performances of the Championships, winning in 43.50 and ensuring the contest went down to the final calculations.
While the Andrew Reid Challenge Cup ultimately remained just out of reach, Trinity’s performance represented a remarkable step forward. After trailing Waverley by 30 points in 2025, the margin was reduced to just six points in a contest that remained alive until the final relay events and the squad finished with:

- 46 personal bests
- 13 season bests
- 37 victories across Championship, Division and team events.
Trinity students repeatedly backed up across multiple events, contributed valuable points in both individual and team competitions and demonstrated outstanding commitment, sportsmanship and pride in their school throughout the day. The performance will be remembered as one of the finest collective efforts in the history of Trinity Track & Field.
