A great place to start is the following frequently-asked questions
about Trinity:

Why Trinity?

Trinity is a non-selective Anglican boys’ school in Sydney’s inner-west.

Trinity has a wide-ranging curriculum that caters for all students – from the intellectually gifted to those more interested in vocational courses – and has arguably the most extensive curriculum of non-selective Independent Boys Schools across NSW.

Students also access a huge range of co-curricular activities, including compulsory sport. This challenges boys in a supportive environment, allowing them to grow in self-confidence, and enhancing their skills and talents across many disciplines.

If you want your son to receive a thoroughly Christian education, at a School where growth and chacracter-formation are our priorities, working in partnership with families to grow ‘good men’, then choose Trinity.

Trinity Grammar School’s IB and HSC results continue to represent its strong learning culture, regularly performing at the highest levels in Australia and on the global stage.

Trinity Education Support Services (TESS) provides integrated support to students with special needs across Preparatory, Junior, Middle and Senior School campuses. The primary goal of Trinity’s Education Support Services Department is to promote within the School practices which enable students who have special needs to effectively pursue their educational and vocational goals. The departmental structure permits an inclusive and comprehensive approach for students with special needs on a Pre-K to Year 12 basis. We aim to identify students’ individual learning needs early in their School life and make appropriate adjustments. Students with special needs include those who have:

  • Cognitive Gifts and Talents
  • Social and emotional difficulties
  • Physical disabilities
  • Learning difficulties
  • English as Second Language (ESL)
  • Vocational Guidance needs

The TESS team is made up of:

  • Registered Psychologists;
  • Specialist teachers in learning support, gifted and talented education, English as a Second Language (for students from non-English speaking backgrounds) and Careers education/ guidance
  • Special project personnel such as Speech Pathologists
  • Occupational Therapists and Teacher’s Aides

Trinity has three campuses situated at Strathfield and Summer Hill. The Preparatory School campus Pre-K to 6 is in Strathfield, the Junior School campus Kindergarten – Year 6 is in Summer Hill and the Middle and Senior School campuses Years 7 – 12 are also in Summer Hill. Please see the relevant maps here at Summer Hill and Strathfield.

To access the School car park at Summer Hill, please see the driveway entrance opposite 169 Victoria Street, Ashfield. For the Prep School on-street parking is available on surrounding streets.

Trinity also has a Field Studies Centre in Woollamia, near Huskisson, as part of its immersive, outdoor education programme that boys attend for a term in Year 9.

All students at Trinity benefit from the holistic education provided, enabling the development of the whole person – physically, intellectually, emotionally, ethically and spiritually.

The HSC programme allows for matriculation into Australian universities. There is flexibility in being able to complete it over a number of years, with the internal assessment in Year 12 worth 50% and the final external exams worth 50%.

The globally recognised IB programme provides a broad, demanding yet motivating curriculum, with an international outlook and a depth of subject and encouragement for self-learning. The IB score is the same measure worldwide.

Trinity became the first school in Australasia to be accredited as a World Academy of Sport Athlete Friendly Education Centre (AFEC). It is only one of nine schools in the world to receive this accreditation.

The World Academy of Sport (WAoS) launched a global initiative a few years ago to accredit schools and education centres to provide flexibility and support to exceptional student athletes, enabling them to combine challenging training schedules with their academic commitments. This means boys at Trinity can study the IB Diploma Programme over 4 years instead of the normal 2 years.

Trinity Grammar School, which introduced the IB programme in 1998, also delivers the widest range of HSC and IB subject choices in NSW. With dedicated classes and experienced HSC and IB teachers, the School has been a consistent high performer across both programmes.

The School’s Pastoral Care network means your son will be known, cared for and guided to grow in mind, body and spirit. He will learn in a positive, passionate and harmonious environment, one where everyone feels part of the ‘Trinity family’.

At the Preparatory and Junior Schools – Pre-K to 6

The class teacher is the crucial provider of Pastoral Care through these early years. Ongoing communication between the home and the school is through them. Class teachers gain as much knowledge as they can about each boy in their charge: his parents and his family, his cognitive abilities and attitudes, his ability at games, his hobbies and interests, his hopes and fears. They act as the boy’s adviser. These class teachers give correction and guidance to the boys when there are breaches of discipline. They build up a record of each boy that contains details concerning work, sport, social adjustment and so on. The class teacher will normally be the first contact person for parents concerning any matter relating to their son.

At the Middle and Senior Schools – Years 7 to 12

Within the Middle and Senior Schools there are 16 houses and 32 house masters who are the key link between the home and the School. Each student has his own tutor and there are five full-time school counsellors and a full-time careers adviser. The school chaplain also plays a vital pastoral role.

Trinity’s Secondary vertical House system provides strong peer relationships, and Trinity’s Life Skills Programme nurtures emotional intelligence for the entirety of a boy’s School life.

Sport at Trinity Grammar School is an essential element of the life of every Trinity student and is compulsory from Years 3 to 12 in both the summer and winter seasons. From Year 7, sporting commitment involves two mid-week training sessions and a Saturday fixture. Sport for boys in Years 7 and 8 is included within the normal School timetable. Every boy is encouraged to participate in, or attempt to participate in, at least one team sport per year.

Trinity Grammar School provides an extensive range of co-curricular activities, including an unparalleled Creative Arts Programme. The compulsory co-curricular programme involves activities that are aimed at developing important skills in leadership, communication, performance, creativity, decision-making, cooperation and service.

In Music alone at the Preparatory School there is a Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Ensemble, String Orchestra, Concert Band, Training Band, Cello Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, Flute Ensemble and Studio Teachers’ Ensembles as well as the Prep School Choir and the Trinity Singers. At the Junior School ensembles include Mozart Strings (K-2), Junior School Choir, Intermezzo Strings, Vivaldi String Ensemble, Concert Band, Guitar Ensemble, String Quartet and the Rock Band. The boys have opportunities for performing at the Annual Music Gala, the twice yearly Studio Concerts and the Annual Celebration of Music Concert. These continue into the Middle and Senior Schools.

Trinity also offers a Cadets Programme for boys in the Middle and Senior Schools. The Cadet Unit at Trinity Grammar School is one of the largest co-curricular activities offered by the School. For boys in Years 8 and 9, participation in Cadets is compulsory unless they are performance level musicians.

Trinity has also implemented a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device Programme), initially with Year groups 5 to 7 and 10 to 12.

Students participating in the BYOD Programme are required to purchase and bring a device to School every day. Please refer to the BYOD requirements for Years 7-12 and BYOD Requirements for Years 5 and 6 for Hardware/Software specifications and to access the BYOD Purchase Portal.
