Weekly Sport Wrap Up – Strong Results Against Waverley and National Success in the Pool
The penultimate weekend of the winter season delivered another strong set of performances for Trinity teams, with an overall 54% win rate across 81 fixtures and an impressive 62% success rate against Waverley across 39 matches. Teams produced strong results across AFL, football, rugby, tennis, volleyball and debating, while Trinity athletes also excelled on the national stage at the SSA Swimming and Diving National Championships.
Football enjoyed a successful round, finishing with 18 wins, 12 losses and five draws. The 1st XI came from behind to secure a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Waverley, while the undefeated 2nd XI continued their outstanding season with a 3–0 win. Across the age groups, the 5th XI produced one of the performances of the weekend, against Waverley, with Henry H and Marc L scoring two goals each. Henry D also recorded a hat-trick in the 8Gs’ win over Sydney Boys High.
Rugby faced strong opposition, particularly in the Opens, with Cranbrook proving difficult to overcome in the 1st XV and 2nd XV fixtures. However, Trinity recorded excellent results throughout the age groups, including victories in the 15A, 15B, 14A, 14B, 13A and 13B matches. Zac S (15B) and Max I (14A) both scored hat-tricks in their respective wins, while Dylan P was flawless with the boot, converting five from five attempts in the 14A side’s 35–17 victory.
Tennis continued its strong season with nine wins from 11 fixtures. Several teams delivered dominant performances, with the 3rds, 5ths,9A, 8A and 8B teams all winning 6–0. Standout individual performances came from Sachin N, who recorded a 6–0 singles victory for the 4th IV, and Nick M, who also won his singles match 6–0 for the 2nd IV.
Volleyball recorded 9 wins from 17 fixtures. One of the highlights of the weekend came from Asher M in the 14Cs match. With his team trailing 21–24 in the second set and facing match point, Asher held his nerve to serve five consecutive points and lead Trinity to a remarkable 26–24 set victory.
In AFL, Trinity recorded two wins from three fixtures. The Year 9/10 side produced an impressive victory over Knox, while the Year 7/8 team outclassed Newington on the day.
Cross Country athletes represented CAS in the annual CAS v GPS competition at Upjohn Park. CAS won the Junior and Intermediate divisions and finished as overall champions. Alexander M claimed victory in the Junior race, Nathan J finished fourth in the Intermediate division and Sam O placed seventh in the Opens race.
Trinity also enjoyed a strong round of debating, winning 10 of 12 fixtures against Waverley. Victories were recorded by the 1sts, 2nds, 8A, 8B and 7A teams among others, continuing a successful CAS campaign.
Away from the winter competition, Trinity students achieved outstanding success at the SSA Swimming and Diving National Championships in Melbourne. All six Trinity swimmers won individual medals, contributing to a total haul of nine medals: three gold, four silver and two bronze. Swimming Captain Sterling T, representing and captaining NSW, won gold in the 200m freestyle and silver in the 100m butterfly, breaking the Trinity record in the 100m butterfly. Chris S won national titles in both the 50m and 100m freestyle events for Under 13s, while Adrian C, Maximilian C, Leo K and Nathan D also secured podium finishes. In diving, Paul K earned silver in the Under 14 3m springboard and bronze in the Under 14 synchronised event.
With one round remaining in the winter season, Trinity teams continue to demonstrate resilience, commitment and strong competitive spirit across every code, providing plenty of momentum heading into the final weekend of competition.
