From the Deputy Headmaster – Summer Hill

In this last Bulletin for 2022, may I extend my very best wishes for a happy and holy Christmas, and a rejuvenating summer break. It has been another excellent year, and I would like to acknowledge the support of the extended School community, and the myriad contributions of the boys and young men of the Middle and Senior School. It is a full and demanding schedule for young people, but in almost every case our young people rise to the challenge in a way that never fails to give me hope. And, in the spirit of going out with a bang rather than a whimper, may I encourage to you to come along to The Battle of the Bands next Wednesday evening. It is not quite the Hordern Pavilion, but The James Wilson Hogg Assembly Hall promises to be the place to be.

Hopefully, when we return in 2023, the campus will be refreshed with a newly refurbished Quadrangle and Chapel Way precinct, a new car park (even if we have to gaze longingly at it for a little while before we get an occupation certificate), a swish new Jubilee Drive, and a return to the amenity of the Design Centre and School of Science with the completion of the new pedestrian link at the northern end of Carpark 2. The campus will be closed for all but a very few activities involving very small numbers of students for the entire break, and I look forward to seeing you back on Campus on Wednesday 1 February for students in Year 7 (who depart for camp on their first day), Year 11 and Year 12. Students in Years 8, 9 and 10 will commence on Thursday 2 February.

This is also the final Bulletin in its current form. From the beginning of next year, we will be distributing our communications through a portal called InSite. I have to confess to being a bit of a Luddite where technology is concerned, but even I have been impressed with the user experience and the ease with which information may be accessed. We anticipate this as a significant step forward in our ability to share information. Our Director of Marketing and Communications has recorded a brief video walkthrough for parents.  You can read more about InSite and watch the video here.

UPDATE: made 9pm Friday 25th November

With the late Friday evening change to the train strike, the School has revised its plans for Speech Day. Back to Plan A!  Town Hall is the venue for Preparatory, Junior, and the Middle and Senior Schools on the same day. The 7-11 Speech Day is 3pm and students are to wear full winter uniform. Seating is limited so please reserve your seat at this link. Students and families to make their own way to and from Town Hall.

Joyeux Noël!
