The International Baccalaureate Diploma

In addition to the HSC, the International Baccalaureate Diploma presents a well regarded programme with an international focus, giving students a different experience with different opportunities.

What’s involved in the IB Diploma?

Theory of Knowledge (TOK) – The TOK is a matrix in which the distinct forms of knowledge specific to the subjects which comprise the IB curriculum can be evaluated critically, compared, contrasted, and integrated.

Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) – to be eligible for the IB Diploma, students must spend four hours per week during the two years of the course engaged in CAS.

Extended Essay (EE) – an in-depth study (4000 words) of a focused topic within a subject, the Extended Essay allows students to engage in independent research and pursue a topic they are passionate about.

Why might students prefer the IB Diploma? The
credential:

  • Is specifically designed for university entry
  • Allows for a broad Senior School Education with English, Mathematics, a Science, a Language and a Humanities subject all compulsory.
  • Has internationally benchmarked standards, assuring the quality of an IB Diploma is understood and recognised across the world
  • Requires work in the Theory of Knowledge course, logged evidence for Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS), and an Extended Essay, allowing students to frame and pursue deep inquiry into an area of passion.
  • Gives students opportunities for higher responsibility in their own independent learning
