Discover the Trinity Teacher Education Internship Programme | Secondary education students
Trinity has welcomed Interns on its campus for several years now, but 2024 will see an expansion of the Trinity Secondary Teacher Education Internship Programme.
Designed to support pre-service teacher development and enrich the Trinity community with diverse, high-quality graduates, the 12-month programme is comprised of two tiers:
- Tier One – for 1st-3rd year university Education students
- Tier Two – for final year university Education students
Ms Deborah Williams, Deputy Head Master – Academic, notes that this is simply a continuation of Trinity’s current Internship experience.
“We’re really proud of our Internship Programme,” she says. “It’s central to our commitment to supporting the next generation of passionate, outstanding educators. We’re constantly working with our Interns to understand the changing needs of pre-service teachers and design our Internship Programme in response to those needs.”
As a result, both tiers of the Programme offer an immersive opportunity that involves induction, collaborative learning sessions (on topics such as managing behaviour, report writing, parent-teacher communication and much more), observation of teaching practice, co-teaching, one-to-one expert mentoring by a trained mentor, involvement in the Co-curricular life of the School, participation in professional learning and optional additional duties that may involve additional income.
It’s a robust programme, one that Ms Williams knows will immensely benefit those who take it on.
“We believe that a Trinity Internship is a powerful accompaniment to the university studies that pre-service teachers complete. We think that it helps them to become profession ready and eager to step into the full-time responsibilities of an outstanding educator.”
Ms Melissa McMahon, Director of Professional Practice, understands just how important an Intern Programme like Trinity’s can be in the formative years of any teacher’s career.
“A Trinity Internship will help you develop the confidence you need to tackle the first few years of your teaching career through one-to-one mentoring and coaching, through observation of master teachers and through ongoing feedback on your practice.
“Best of all, the internship is an immersive programme that enables you to fully participate in the rhythms and routines of life at Trinity Grammar School. You’ll be a part of a faculty making you feel connected and an important part of the Trinity team.”
And, although the Internship Programme has many clear benefits for the Interns themselves, it is the Trinity community that also benefits.
“We know that interns have a great deal of energy, expertise, and new perspectives,” says Ms Williams. “We want them to use it and share it at Trinity.”
“If you’re interested in the kinds of challenges and opportunities that a Trinity internship programme can offer, we’d love to hear from you.”
