Breakthrough win for cadets

Trinity cadets have won the CAS drill competition for the first time in its 21-year history.

The breakthrough for the School’s Cadet Unit came at St Catherine’s College in Waverley, where the 21 members of the drill squad came out top in an event known for its meticulous and exacting standards.

Commanded by their RSM, CDT WO1 Sophie Brennan, the Year 10 and 11 students got the nod from the two independent judges, both Australian Army Warrant Officers, after displaying all elements of drill, including slow and quick marches, and a range of well-rehearsed formations.

“The cadets put a lot of effort into this,” said Officer Commanding Cadets Sue Draysey.

“We started training in term one, working on Wednesdays after parade until 6pm.

“This competition is significant because it requires them to display their dress, bearing, and drill skills in a competitive environment, and that doesn’t happen anywhere else.”
