Middle School
Trinity’s School Managed Device Program
Trinity commenced its School Managed Device (SMD) Program in 2026 with Year 7 students. The program will expand progressively as cohorts move through Middle School, with incoming Year 7 students joining the program each year. This staged approach will result in all students in Years 7 to 9 using a School-issued and School-managed device, providing a consistent, secure and equitable learning experience.
By supplying devices directly to students, we’re able to:
We believe this approach will create a more focused, secure, and equitable learning environment for all students. Further details about device distribution and setup for incoming Year 7 students will be shared closer to the start of each school year.
School Managed Device Dashboard
The School Managed Device Dashboard is an initiative that helps support healthy and responsible technology use at home while your son is using his Trinity school-managed device (SMD).
Families participating in the program will also have access to a School Managed Device Dashboard, allowing parent control over aspects of their son’s device while the device is NOT connected to the School network and outside School hours.
While the device is NOT connected to the School network and outside School hours, parents will be able to:
- View their son’s online activity
- Set approved times for internet access
- Pause internet connectivity outside agreed hours
- Create healthy boundaries around screen time
The dashboard allows you to align technology use at home with the online safety and digital citizenship expectations that students experience at school. By setting clear boundaries and monitoring usage, you can help reduce distractions, support study routines and encourage positive digital habits.
You can also schedule internet access to support homework periods and limit late-night online activity that may affect sleep, wellbeing and learning.
Access is secure and available only to authorised parents and guardians.
Senior School Device Options
Including Year 9 (2027)
Trinity is progressively rolling out its School Managed Device Program across Middle School (Years 7 to 9). The program commenced with Year 7 students in 2026 and will expand each year as that cohort progresses through Middle School. Ultimately, all students in Years 7 to 9 will use a School-issued and School-managed device
During this transition period, students entering Year 9 in 2027 will continue to access Senior School device options and may choose between Trinity’s School Managed Device Program or the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Program.
The School Managed Device Program requires families to purchase a Trinity-approved Windows laptop directly through the Trinity Technology Portal operated by JB Hi-Fi Education. Devices purchased through this program are configured, managed and supported by the School. While ownership of the device remains with the family, Trinity provides device management, software deployment, security updates and technical support.
Devices purchased from other retailers are not eligible for inclusion in the School Managed Device Program, even if they are the same model.
While ownership of the device remains with the family, Trinity provides device management, software deployment, security updates, technical support and provides parents with access to the School Managed Device Dashboard.
Families who prefer to purchase and manage their own device may continue to participate in the BYOD Program, provided the device meets Trinity’s minimum requirements.
Trinity has adopted a student-centred approach to technology use in the classroom, particularly in the Senior School. Devices are integrated into a blended learning model, combining face-to-face teaching with digital tools to enhance engagement and accessibility. Students and teachers benefit from platforms such as:
These tools support collaboration, real-time feedback, and access to learning resources along with news and notices, both in and out of the classroom.
Purchase Devices and Accessories via JB Hi-Fi Education
To support families, Trinity has partnered with JB Hi-Fi Education to provide access to approved devices, accessories and technology solutions through the Trinity Technology Portal.
For students entering Years 9 to 12 in 2027, the portal provides access to both the School Managed Device (SMD) Program and the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Program. Families may select from a range of approved devices that meet Trinity’s technology requirements, with options including extended warranty and accidental damage protection.
Families wishing to participate in the School Managed Device Program must purchase their device through the Trinity Technology Portal. Devices purchased through other retailers or suppliers cannot be enrolled in the School Managed Device Program, even where the same make and model is available elsewhere.
Families of students in Years 7 and 8 can also purchase approved accessories through the portal, including:
- Protective laptop bags and sleeves
- Replacement chargers and power accessories
- Digital pens and approved peripherals
Senior School Families may also choose to purchase a device independently, provided it meets the minimum specifications outlined here https://www.trinity.nsw.edu.au/learning/year-7-to-12-information/
