124 Trinity students undertook the HSC credential in 2023, being approximately half of the cohort, with the other half taking the IB Diploma. The HSC students received 74 Band 6 results, while 56 individual students appear on the Distinguished Achievers list across 2 unit and Extension courses. 72% of students pursuing Extension level courses achieved results in the top two performance bands.

  • Christian Ciarroni in Year 10 received First in Course for Mathematics Advanced, one of 26 students from Year 10 who sat the HSC in Mathematics as part of Trinity’s Accelerants program.
  • James Kountouris received All-round Achiever; students on the All-round achievers list have been recognised for a result in the highest band for ten or more units.
  • Sam Rofail received Top Achiever in Course for 9th place in Physics. Sam also received an ATAR of 99.35, while 18 other Trinity students also receiving ATARs between 90 and 98.9.
  • Eight students received HSC Showcase nominations. The nomination of Kael Bowditch was successful: his work will be exhibited as part of the prestigious ArtExpress showcase.
  • Three students also achieved both an HSC and an industry traineeship, requiring commitment and diligence both to academics and completion of mandatory hours with an approved employer.

“The class of 2023 has performed exceedingly well and I’m very proud of our boys’ achievements in the HSC,” said Mrs Deborah Williams, Deputy Headmaster – Academic. “The broad view of 2023 course performance is strong, reflecting the way students are supported to choose and achieve within personal areas of passion, talent and need.

“The HSC offers attractive flexibility in the way a personal program of study can be arranged. It allows students with specialised flair in creative arts or design or performance or humanities or sciences or mathematics or, in fact, any other blend of passion and talent, to select courses within which they can find deep motivation and engagement. The 2023 HSC results are testimony both to this strength in the design of the NSW credential, as well as the ways in which Trinity’s young men have responded to the opportunities afforded them by this flexibility.”

Tim Bowden, Headmaster, added: “I am delighted by the range of personal achievements; they demonstrate our young men modelling and embracing Trinity’s approach to academic endeavour: skills such as self-management, personal learning focus and persistence. As our Year 12 boys move into post-secondary education and vocation, we wish them well.”

Mr Bowden added that the widely publicised school rankings did not yet paint the full picture, being based solely on HSC results and excluding the ATARs of Trinity’s 108 International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma students, who will receive their results in January.
