Seven perfect scores in International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma

Sydney’s Trinity Grammar School continues to cement its world class ranking as an International Baccalaureate school, with seven students attaining the perfect score in the 2022 International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma and eight dropping just one point.

For the Trinity students earning perfect scores of 45, it equates to an ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) of 99.95. Trinity Headmaster, Mr Tim Bowden, said he was delighted with all the 2022 cohort results, reflecting that the School’s long-established IB Diploma programme consistently delivers scores of 36 and above.

“Trinity’s cohort of 115 students averaged an IB Diploma score of 36.3 which is expected to significantly exceed the global averages which will be published in coming weeks,” he said.

This year, Australia’s state based Tertiary Admission Centres (in NSW, the University Admissions Centre) will provide an International Baccalaureate Admission Score (IBAS) to each student meeting the criteria for award of the Diploma. The IBAS is a finer grained score than the IB score out of 45, equating each IB score to a range of ATAR positions. This year, the School’s median ATAR equivalence is a strong 94.25.

“The 2022 results highlight continued strength in what is likely the region’s largest, and steadily increasing, IB Diploma cohort. When compared to Trinity’s IB Diploma results of the past five years, a standard of excellence has been maintained. History has shown us that one or two of these might yet join their classmates at the very top as some only missed out on the highest band by 2-3 marks,” added Mr Bowden.

“While these are outstanding results, they should not be the only measure of success – far more valuable is to look at the men of character that our boys have become. We hope they can step out and face the world with confidence, resilience, and resourcefulness, with the wisdom to know when to speak and the courage to stand for what is right.

“As our 2022 cohort move into post-secondary education and vocation, we wish them well. They have done themselves proud in continuing the tradition of excellence at Trinity,” said Mr Bowden.
