Sports News | Preparatory School
Term 1 is always packed with lots of sporting events. The term started with the annual House Swimming Championships. Unfortunately, parents still weren’t allowed on site for School events, however, the boys participated with passion. It was the first such event since the Cross Country carnival late in Term 1 2021. Both the 25m and 50m pools at the Summer Hill campus were full of boys who were making the most of the day and enjoying themselves. Congratulations to School House who were crowned champions of the day.
From Week 2 it was great to be able to welcome back Summer Sport for boys in Years 4-6. Boys and parents were buzzing as sport returned and it was great to see Prep a hive of activity as it hosted both IPSHA teams and Intra-school sport. It was a shame that so many fixtures were canceled due to poor weather and the boys were disappointed as they had gained a greater appreciation for sport after having missed so much in 2021. Boys in Year 3 were able to complete the 5 weeks of their Football programme. It was great to see and hear of the improvement made throughout the programme. The data collected based on testing pre and post of the programme, highlighted a development in dribbling speed and close control.
Throughout the term there were several swimming carnivals following our School Swimming Championships. A team was selected following two invitational carnivals and 19 boys took part in the IPSHA Carnival. From that carnival another 7 boys earned selection in the IPSHA team to compete at the CIS Championships. At the CIS Championships, the Prep team scored a very impressive 113 points, clearly ahead of their closest rivals on 74 points. These points were earned both individually and as a team because the Junior boys relay team continued strong performances from recent years and earned a 2nd place finish. Six boys earned selection in the CIS to compete at the NSW PSSA Championships next week.
In Week 7 we held the annual House Cross Country Championships at Bressington Park. It was great to be back at Bressington as it offers the most opportunity for boys to compete on a course that is closest to a genuine Cross Country course. Most importantly it is most like the King’s School course that will host the IPSHA Carnival in Term 2 where 20 Prep boys will compete.
Well done to all boys for the manner with which they have competed in carnivals against each other and against other schools, for the effort put in at training to develop their abilities and most importantly for the amount of fun they’ve had in Term 1. Great job!
