Library News | Preparatory School

It was so lovely to see all the students yesterday and hear about all the exciting places they visited over the summer break and the time spent with their families. We are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead with new and exciting changes in the library.

Summer Reading Challenge

Over the summer break, we ran the Summer Reading Challenge. It is now time to complete your entries as there are $25 Scholastic vouchers to be won by students who marked off sections of the attached reading bingo card. We will close this competition at the end of Week 2 and announce winners shortly after. Entry forms with the QR code can be collected from the Library.

Library Champions Expressions of Interest

We are looking for a team of motivated and dedicated Library Champions (Library Monitors) for 2022. Boys in years 3,4, 5 and 6 are eligible to apply using the form linked below. Library Champions are required to do 2 duties a week during the below times:

  • First Break 11.10-11.30am

If your son is interested, please have him complete the Google Form by the end of Week 3. If successful in this first stage of applications, he will be required to undergo training during Weeks 4-5. If he completes the training satisfactorily, he will be notified before the end of the term of his selection as a Champion for 2022.

Author Spotlight – Dav Pilkey

David “Dav” Murray Pilkey, Jr., who is also known by the pen name, Sue Denim was born on 4th March, 1966 is a renowned American writer and illustrator of children’s literature. He is most popular for being both the author and illustrator of the Captain Underpants and Dogman book series. He occasionally also uses the pen names of George Beard and Harold Hutchins.

He suffered from attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and dyslexia, making school difficult. Dav was often sent out of the classroom to sit at a desk in the hallway, where he made up stories and illustrated them. He created Captain Underpants during this hallway time. While Dav was at Kent State University in Ohio, one of his professors suggested that he write a children’s book. He subsequently created his first book, World War Won, and entered it in a national contest. Dav won the contest, and his book was published in 1987.

Dav resides with his wife, Sayuri near Seattle, Washington
