Frequently asked questions

Yes. Trinity’s Internship Program is available for Education students in any year. There are two tiers to this programme. Tier One is appropriate for 1st-3rd year students, while Tier Two is for those in their final year.

Yes. If you are a 1st–3rd year university student, you will be classified as a Teacher’s Aide, with three levels of corresponding pay available. If you are a final year student, you will be classified as a Conditionally Accredited Teacher, with corresponding pay.

Both tiers of the program are 12-month contractual internships.

Responsibilities will vary depending on your own experience. 1st year students are closely supervised, with more responsibility available as you continue through your degree. From year one to three, you can expect to be participating in the Co-curricular program, so you can quickly build up your teaching experience, as well as having access to learning sessions in topics such as managing behaviour, report writing, parent-teacher communication, and faculty support. Final year students can also expect support to gain their Conditional teaching accreditation, one-on-one mentoring with a trained mentor, regular observation and feedback to their teaching practice from a range of Trinity staff, including Master teachers, practicum placement at Trinity, and access to casual teaching opportunities.

Yes. Participation in Trinity’s Co-curricular Program is optional for those in Tier One, and compulsory for those in Tier Two. Both Tiers also have the opportunity for paid employment in Trinity’s Study Plus program.

All Interns will be assigned a dedicated mentor and will be given identification with a faculty where there are staff who will support you and provide feedback, and guidance. Our Director of Professional Practice, who runs the program, will be accessible to all Trinity Education Interns.

For final year university students, there are opportunities for casual teaching at Trinity outside of your Intern responsibilities.

Interns are strongly encouraged to apply for any job opportunities available at Trinity and to use the skills and job-readiness preparation they have received throughout the Internship to secure permanent employment at Trinity.
