Other Possible Worlds: Contemporary Art from Thailand is an exhibition in two parts held across Delmar Gallery and 16albermarle Project Space. It is curated by John Cruthers, director of 16albermarle and Haisang Javanalikhikara from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Art, Chulalongkorn University.
Other Possible Worlds presents 12 young and mid career Thai artists enthusiastically engaged in the debates around Thailand’s present and future. In their work they investigate the key issues facing Thai society – urbanization, environmental issues, inequality and the resulting high levels of disadvantage, and the political rights and duties of Thai people.
The exhibition includes painting, sculpture, photography, installation, neon, video, embroidery, prints and works on paper. The ethnicities and localities of the artists are equally diverse, but all are driven by a desire to join the debate and imagine other possible futures for their country.
