The works in this exhibition animate landscape as living memory, the past saturating the present. Beyond inherited frames of representation, across the formats of portrait and landscape, between figure and ground, tactile spaces are formed by touch and gesture.

Through painting, print, and sculpture, the artists register sensations that embody connections to land and evoke Country. Archives, maps, mangrove, fibre, and other stores of memory are recomposed, bringing layered histories into play, and renewing connections to ancestral places.

Working from Mparntwe/Alice Springs and Tennant Creek in the Central Desert, Patjarr in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands, Larrakia Country in Darwin, Gundungurra and Tharawal Country in Mittagong, and Wurundjeri Country in Naarm/Melbourne, each artist offers a distinct perspective. Amid the ongoing impacts of colonisation, their creative practices contribute to a broader conversation about how relationships to land are conveyed in contemporary art across this continent.
