Weekly Sport Wrap Up – Strong Start to Term 3 Across Multiple Codes
The first round back after the holidays saw Trinity teams spread across a range of venues and opponents, with 92 fixtures contested over the weekend. While results were mixed overall, there were several strong performances across the program and a number of notable individual efforts. Trinity recorded a 43% win rate across the round, with fixtures spread across a number of different opponents and competitions.
Football produced a competitive round against Cranbrook, finishing with 14 wins, 16 losses and six draws across the program. The Open age group teams (1st–8th XI) enjoyed an undefeated day, recording six wins and two draws. The 1st XI played out a scoreless draw, while the 2nd XI continued its outstanding season with a 1–0 win and remains on course for the unofficial premiership. Aaron Patel scored a hat-trick in the 4th XI’s 3–2 victory, while the 8th XI recorded an impressive 3–2 win led by strong performances from Harry Hartzenberg, Kamile Abwi and Jake Heald.
Rugby teams were spread across multiple venues, with the Opens and 16s playing at Forshaw Rugby Park and the 13s and 14s hosting Barker. Trinity was also pleased to welcome our guests from Japan, Kwansei Gakuin, who joined the day’s fixtures at Sylvania. Trinity and Kwansei Gakuin combined to win eight of the nine matches played at Forshaw Rugby Park. Kwansei Gakuin were victorious in all three of their matches against St Augustine’s, while Trinity won all three Opens fixtures against St Aloysius’. The 1st XV recorded a 41–24 victory and the 2nd XV won 38–0. The 16B and 16C teams also defeated Knox, while the 13A, 13B, 14A and 14B teams completed a clean sweep against Barker.
AFL teams faced a split round of opposition. The Year 9/10 side enjoyed a 65–25 victory over Cranbrook, while the Year 7/8 team suffered a narrow one-point loss to Barker. The 1st XVIII went down to a strong Shore side while continuing to compete against quality opposition.
Tennis endured a challenging day against Cranbrook, although there were wins for the 6th IV, 10C, 7A, 7B and 7C teams. The 1st IV secured a hard-earned draw after trailing throughout the day. Yianni Pahos won all of his sets despite arriving back from Greece only days earlier, while Marcus Nguyen fought back from 1–4 down to win 6–4 and secure the draw for Trinity.
Volleyball continued its strong form, with the 1st and 2nd VI both recording 3–1 victories over Cranbrook. Further wins across the age groups contributed to a positive day for the program.
Trinity also hosted the annual Trinity Relays at Ewen Park. The Intermediate team of Lachlan Wheeler, Patrick McMahon, Nathan Jones and Noah Fletcher claimed gold, while Alex Miller, Sebastian Thomas and Jonah Chan helped the Junior team secure silver. The Trinity Old Boys team recorded the fastest relay of the day in what was another successful community event.
Debating commenced its CAS season against Cranbrook, with victories recorded by the 10A, 9A, 9B, 8A and 7B teams.
There was also individual success beyond school competition, with Kobe Harb winning both his division and the Open Weight division at the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation Asian Championships in Japan.
With the winter season entering its final stages, Trinity teams produced several strong performances across the weekend and will look to finish the term strongly over the remaining rounds.
