Weekly Sport Wrap Up – Strong Reconciliation Round Results Despite Weather Disruption
Trinity teams took the field this week as part of Indigenous Reconciliation Round, marking National Reconciliation Week.
At Quad Assembly, former AFL player and Indigenous leader Michael O’Loughlin spoke about his experiences and the importance of building understanding and respect through everyday actions. The round was recognised across the program, with First teams wearing specially presented Reconciliation Round jerseys as a visible commitment to that message.
Weather had a significant impact on the weekend’s program, with all AFL fixtures cancelled and only a limited number of Rugby matches played. Despite this, Trinity recorded a strong overall performance, including a 73% win rate across fixtures against Barker.
Chess continued in the Junior Chess League, with strong performances across the divisions. The Senior team recorded a 4–0 win, while the Intermediates also secured victory. The Junior team was defeated by Sydney Grammar.
Rugby fixtures were limited, with only three matches played. The 1st XV faced a difficult contest against Barker, while the 2nd XV pushed their opposition closely before going down 17–21. Xavier Potts scored two tries and Christos Caridi added another in a competitive performance.
Football produced a number of strong results. The 2nd XI recorded a 3–1 win, highlighted by a last‑minute penalty save from Dara Ritchley on debut. The 1st XI were narrowly defeated 1–2. In the age groups, the 9C side secured a 7–0 win, with Ben Fannous scoring four goals.
Tennis faced Barker with mixed results in the senior teams, but strong performances across the younger age groups. All Year 7, 8 and 9 teams recorded wins, with several emphatic 6–0 victories, including a strong performance from Nicholas Streeton in the 6ths. The 2nd IV also secured a 5–3 win.
Volleyball delivered a positive round, with both the 1st and 2nd VI recording 3–1 wins. Results across the program contributed strongly to the weekend’s overall success.
Cross Country competed at the Newington Invitational, with Trinity recording strong results across all divisions. The Opens placed third overall and first in CAS, the Under 16s finished fourth overall and second in CAS, and the Under 14s placed second overall and second in CAS.
A highlight of the week came in Debating, where the Year 8A FED team claimed the premiership, defeating St Aloysius’ in the grand final.
Despite a disrupted schedule, the weekend produced strong results across multiple codes, with particularly encouraging performances across Football, Tennis and Volleyball.
