Weekly Sport Wrap Up – Strong Round Across Codes
Trinity recorded one of its stronger rounds of the season, finishing with a 62% win rate overall, including a 65% win rate across fixtures against Waverley.
Debating and Chess opened proceedings on Friday night. The Senior B team’s ISDA campaign ended with a semi‑final loss to Knox, while the FED 8A team defeated Newington to progress to this week’s grand final. In Chess, both the Senior and Intermediate teams recorded wins, while the Junior team went down.
Rugby faced Waverley with mixed results in the opens, but delivered strong outcomes across the programme. Wins were recorded by the 16As, 15As, 15Bs and 14Bs, marking the first time Trinity has won four or more matches against Waverley at this level in several years.
Football produced a solid set of results. The 2nd XI secured a 2–0 win, while the 1st XI went down 0–1. Across the age groups, a number of teams remain undefeated this term, including 9B, 8F, 8G, 7C, 7D and 7F. Individual performances included four goals from Ruben Saha and a penalty save from Leo Jonsson in a 3–0 win for the 10Cs.
AFL recorded two strong wins across the younger age groups. The Year 9/10 side defeated Knox, while the Year 7/8 team, competing in Division 1, recorded a strong win over St Aloysius’.
Tennis delivered another strong performance, with both the 1st and 2nd IV recording wins over Waverley. The 2nd IV continues to perform consistently, with Domenic Furfaro remaining undefeated in his singles matches. Strong contributions also came from the lower divisions.
Volleyball continued its form, recording wins against Waverley in key fixtures including the 1st VI and major age‑group teams, with further victories across the program.
Cross Country competed at the Scots Invitational at Upjohn Park, with the Opens finishing second overall and first among CAS schools. The Under 16 and Under 14 teams also placed strongly within CAS. Individual highlights included a win for Kobe Stewart and a second placing for Nathan Jones in the Intermediates.
In Track and Field, Thomas Blackman secured a bronze medal in the Under 18 javelin at the Oceania Championships.
At the NSW All Schools Swimming Championships, Trinity swimmers delivered one of the program’s strongest performances in recent years. Across the meet, students combined for 25 medals, including five gold, while two NSW All Schools records and three new Trinity Grammar School records were established.
Christopher Montana was a standout performer, winning gold in both the 50m and 100m Breaststroke events for the 17 Years and Over division, setting new NSW All Schools records in both races. He also added a silver medal in the 50m Freestyle and a bronze in the 100m Freestyle.
Chris Song produced an outstanding debut at the secondary schools level, securing gold in both the 50m and 100m Freestyle for the 13 Years division and added a silver medal in the 100m Backstroke, demonstrating composure well beyond his years.
Trinity’s relay teams also performed consistently across all divisions, with Junior, Intermediate and Senior squads finishing on the podium in every Freestyle and Medley relay event entered. Across the championships, relay teams contributed significantly to the medal tally and established three new school records.
