Trinity Rugby Representatives shine bright
Trinity’s Rugby program has been showcased through numerous representative selections over the past month, spanning from Under 15s to Alumni.
Old Boy Tane Edmed (’18) continued his Wallabies career, earning another cap in their Bledisloe Cup match against the All Blacks. Meanwhile, our Australian Schoolboys representatives made a strong start in their gold jerseys, celebrating two test victories over the Fiji Schoolboys in Canberra, following a solid performance in a trial against the Australian U18 team.
Will T and Brock P, both Trinity 1st XV players, started on each wing for the Australian Schoolboys and did their country proud. They played in all three matches, with Will scoring tries in two of them.
Remarkably, they shared this experience with Lachlan White, Trinity’s Director of Co-Curricular, who was appointed Assistant Coach for the Australian Schoolboys this year. Lachlan had the honour of informing them of their selection, noting they were “bouncing off the walls after the announcement and were always upbeat and excited in and around camp.”
Reflecting on their performance, Lachlan said:
“Both Brock and Will worked very hard to be in the game, though playing on the wing meant opportunities in attack were limited. During our training sessions, both showed outstanding defensive understanding and reading of the attack, which gave us confidence that Fiji would never go around us. Both had a team-first mentality and were willing to do whatever it took for the benefit of the team. I’m really pleased that such hard-working players, who have done all that has been asked of them by their coaches, were rewarded with this opportunity and are now part of a unique club that many aspire to join.”
On Trinity’s role in their development, he added:
“There’s no doubt that Trinity has some great coaches in its Rugby program. Our players benefit from coaching across a range of levels. Michael Snowden (Trinity Director of Rugby) deserves great credit for the development of both Brock and Will. However, coaches from their early days in the green jersey also deserve recognition for the growth they’ve shown to reach the Australian Schoolboys team. Trinity works very hard at Rugby, and hopefully there are more Australian Schoolboys to come in the future.”
Meanwhile, our NSW Waratahs Under 15 representatives, Ethan M, Lucas V, Wesley M, and Urijah B, drew their series against Queensland 1-1. Wesley was named Captain and all four Trinity players started each game.
The Waratahs claimed a thrilling 38–37 win in the first match at Ballymore Stadium in Queensland. In the return fixture at Forshaw Rugby Park, the Reds responded with a 39–26 victory. All four Trinity players performed well, with Ethan and Urijah both scoring tries in the second match.
Also during the holidays, another 1st XV player, Logan T, captained the NSWCIS team at the Touch Football National Youth Championships. In an epic final, Logan was named best player as NSWCIS edged out the Queensland Representative School Sport team 7–6 to defend their 2024 title and go back-to-back.
This caps off a remarkable year for Logan, who was also selected for the Australian Emus and the NSW State of Origin Men’s 20s team and nominated as Junior Male Player of the Year by NSW Touch Football.
