Weekend Sports Roundup – Selection Success
This past weekend, Trinity Grammar School athletes showcased their talent across various sporting disciplines, achieving notable victories and earning significant representative selections.
The 1st XV Rugby team secured a strong 31–21 victory over Cranbrook. Impressive hat-tricks were recorded by Noah Malas (8Ta) for the 13C, George Chaar (8Du) in the 14C, both Jack Barnby-Holmes (8Hi) and Pax Caine (8Ar) in the 14A and Ethan Mullins (9Du) in the 15A. Several rugby players also earned CAS selections, including Brock Prideaux (12Wh) and Patrick Thompson (12Sc) for the CAS 1st XV, Luke Niulala (12St), Will Trostel (12Hi), Marcus Mastro (12Mu), and Sione Lua (12St) for the CAS 2nd XV, and Lucas Villate-Gallagher (9Ke), Wes Moala (9St), and Xavier Toomalatai (11Ho) for the CAS U16 team.
Over the weekend, the NSW Cross Country Championships were held in Nowra. Ten Trinity Grammar School students competed, achieving impressive results. Matt McLachlan (12Wj) secured 1st place in the 17s age group, and Patrick McMahon (9Du) also claimed 1st place in the 15s age group. Furthermore, the 15s team, comprising Patrick McMahon (9Du), Lachlan Wheeler (9We), Nathan Jones (9Mu), and Sebastian Sentas (9Ar), proudly claimed Gold, beating a very competitive field.
Trinity’s Football teams delivered a clean sweep in all Open grade games (1st to 7th XI) against Cranbrook. The 1st XI won 1–0, and the 2nd XI secured a 4–1 victory. Both the 3rd XI and 7Bs teams remain undefeated during the CAS season. Aswell as that we had Josh Falato and Taj Wardle represent CIS in the undefeated NSW All Schools Football Tournament team.
In Tennis, the 1st IV achieved a robust 6 sets (40 games) to 2 sets (28 games) win over Cranbrook, despite missing a key player. The 7A and 8A teams also had good wins and remain undefeated.
Both the 1st VI Volleyball team vs Cranbrook and 2nd VI Green vs Barker secured dominant 3–0 straight-set victories. CAS 1st VI selections included Ayman Parker (11We), Jacob Pham (12Wh), Marc-Anthony Younan (12Ta), and Isaac Latt (12Wh).
For AFL, while the 1st XVIII and Year 9/10 teams faced losses, the Year 7/8 team secured a convincing win against Redlands. Callum Padman (12Hi) and Matthew Macdonald (11Wj) were selected for the CAS 1st XVIII.
In JCL Round 7 Chess, the Junior team achieved a commendable 3–1 victory against Australian International Academy.
