Weekend Sports Roundup – Trinity’s Rugby Program Delivers on All Levels
Trinity Sports weekend was nothing short of triumphant, as teams delivered strong performances, and individuals carved out notable achievements across a wide array of competitions.
On the Rugby field, the 1st XV delivered a confident 55–14 win over St Aloysius’. Across the program, players displayed strong teamwork, skill and sportsmanship, reflected in an overall winning percentage of 69%. Among the many standout efforts, Corbyn Fainga’a (8Ar) and Ethan Mullins (9Du) each scored four tries, contributing to a season total of 140 different try-scorers across the Trinity Rugby program.
Football teams maintained this winning momentum, with all ‘A’ teams securing victories. The 1st XI won 6–3, the Seconds edged a tight 1–0 contest, and remarkably, in the 7Gs, George Haddad (7Sc) and Rhys Daniels (7St) each netted six goals in a high-scoring display.
Tennis proved more challenging, as both the 1st and 2nd IV fell to St Aloysius’. Despite the losses, matches were closely contested and highlighted promising individual play.
In AFL, the 1st XVIII suffered a narrow 45–60 loss to Barker. However, the Year 9/10 team clinched a thrilling 66–65 victory over Cranbrook. The Year 7/8s also presented a strong victory against St Augustine’s, showcasing their continued development as a team.
Trinity’s Cross Country squad impressed at the Newington Invitational in Botany, with both the Opens and Intermediate teams finishing first. In the Opens division, Matthew McLachlan (12WJ) and Kobe Stewart (11Yo) placed 1st and 3rd respectively, while Lachlan Wheeler (10We) and Nathan Jones (9Mu) secured 2nd and 3rd in the Intermediate division.
Volleyball teams also contributed to the weekend’s success. The 1st VI defeated St Aloysius’ 3–1, and the 2nd VI Green mounted an impressive comeback from two sets down to beat Knox 3–2.
In Chess, Trinity achieved a clean sweep in JCL Round 4, securing dominant 4–0 victories across the Senior, Intermediate, and Junior divisions.
Beyond traditional team sports, Trinity Cadets earned second place in the CAS Drill Competition, held at St Catherine’s College. Individually, Kobe Harb (10Hi) delivered an exceptional performance, winning both the Gi and No-Gi divisions at the Victorian State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships.
To conclude the week, Trinity’s Year 10 Debating team comprising Orlando Ang (10WJ), Ben De Lany (10Hi), Daniel Ho (10Ar), and Ryan Qin (10Yo) claimed the prestigious ISDA Grand Final title with a win over Sydney Grammar.
