Trinity Grammar School certified as a Family Inclusive Workplace for 2025-2027
Trinity is delighted to have been re-certified as a Family Inclusive Workplace for 2025-2027 after being the first school in Australia to originally receive the certification.
Family Friendly Workplaces™ is working towards reducing the tension that exists between work and family by embedding and promoting policies and practices that genuinely support employees to thrive at work and at home.
They do this by educating employers, providing a framework and guidelines for employers to follow, certifying employers and helping organisations to develop their approach to continue meeting best practices. Family Friendly Workplaces™ certification is benchmarked against a set of national standards. These standards include:
- Flexible Work Standards | Support to enable employees to combine work with caring responsibilities.
- Parental Leave Standards | Embedded support for parental leave transition that is gender and family inclusive.
- Leadership Culture | Leaders who are enabling a family-friendly workplace culture.
- Family Care Standards | Embedded support for employees when caring for their family.
- Family Wellbeing Standards | Promoting wellbeing of employees and their families.
- Measurement Standards | Measurement enables assessment and amendment of organisational strategy, policies and practices to sustain this workplace culture.
“This accreditation promotes the value of shared responsibility for the wellbeing of our staff, which extends to supporting them both in and out of work,” says Ms Belinda Reid, Head of Human Resources at Trinity. “It’s not possible to separate the person from their responsibilities at home while they are at work.”
“When employees feel supported in their personal lives, they are more likely to be productive and engaged at work.”
The HR team at Trinity knows that family can look different for different employees – whether it be caring for an aging parent, taking parental leave, managing children’s needs or managing a spouse’s medical needs – and they’re committed to ensuring family-friendly practices take the diversity of situations into consideration.
“Across the accreditation period, and beyond, we’re hoping to build stronger connections for our employees between family and work, to help them transition better between the two,” Ms Reid continues.
“We’re working on developing a solid library of resources and connections that are accessible to all employees, so that employees are aware of how Trinity can support them within our framework.”
Trinity has achieved this accreditation by completing the Family Friendly Action Plan, which includes:
- Ensuring a variety of flexible work options are available to all employees.
- Offering more than one aspect of flexibility (e.g. flex leave, flex place, flex hours, informal, formal) and flexible types of work (e.g. part-time, job share, compressed work week)
- Ensuring roles are designed to accommodate flexible work practices
- Outlining details of flexible work policies, strategies or frameworks as part of the hiring and onboarding process
- Consistently sharing real stories across the organisation of how employees are experiencing flexible work
The plan also includes specific action points and commitments regarding Parental Leave, Leadership Culture, Family Care Practice, Family Wellbeing, and Measurement of all of the action points.
