Records tumble at CAS swim titles

Divers win for fourth straight year

Four Trinity swimmers set CAS records as the School finished a gallant second to Knox at the 94th CAS titles, before the divers turned the tables on Knox to win for the fourth consecutive year.

Christopher Montana (10He) broke two CAS marks – in the 15-16 200m Individual Medley and the 16 50m breaststroke.

Team Captain Grayson Doig (12He) set a new CAS record in the Open 200m individual medley, and  Hayden Howard (8Mu) and Sterling Tuxford (11WH) followed suit in the 12-14 200m individual medley and 15-16 200m freestyle respectively.

New school records also fell to Christopher Montana in the 16 years 50m breaststroke and to the 16 years 4x50m freestyle relay team of Christopher Montana (10He), Samuel Skrabak (10Ar), Sterling Tuxford (11WH), and Joshua Kang (10We).

Trinity finished with 534 points, just 35 behind Knox and well ahead of Cranbrook (441), Barker (371.5), Waverley (343) and `St Aloysius (322.5).

“It was a remarkable performance amid fierce competition from the top-tier teams,” said Director of Swimming Ben Tuxford.

“Trinity swimmers demonstrated resilience, talent, and teamwork throughout the competition, securing their place as one of the top teams in the CAS swimming calendar.

“The second place finish is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the athletes and coaching staff.”

Grayson Doig delivered an outstanding performance, winning the Open 50m freestyle Open 200m Individual medley, and the Open 100m butterfly.

Christopher Montana not only won the 15-16 years intermediate 200m individual medley, the 16 years 50m breaststroke, and Open 100m breaststroke but helped set a new School record in winning the  16 years 4x50m freestyle relay.

Sterling Tuxford not only set a CAS record in the 15-16 years 200m freestyle but won the 16 years 50m backstroke and was a member of the winning 4x50m freestyle relay team.

Connor Wirth (9Ho) had a perfect night, winning all five of his races – in the 14 years 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 4x50m medley relay, and 4x50m freestyle relay.

The diving championship became a nerve-wracking tussle with Knox as the senior boys wrestled the lead back from Knox.

“They simply did an astonishing job, executing their dives with real artistic joy and precision,” said diving team co-ordinator Gergely Malyusz.

Hamish Turner (11Ta) won the category, with Rory Flanagan (12Fo) and Ewan Fouracre (12WH) securing third and fourth places to edge out Knox.

Paul Karlos (7Ta), Oliver Newton (9Ar) and Leith Graham (10Mu) finished fifth, sixth and ninth in the intermediates, and Samuel Chung (5D) topped the juniors.
