Louis Agosti (’22) scored the goal that propelled the Young Socceroos into their penalty shoot-out victory in the U20 Asian Cup final, their first triumph in the tournament’s 66-year history.

The attacking midfielder, who plays for Italian Serie C side Perugia, gave Australia the lead against Saudi Arabia in Shenzhen, China, with a sweet 24th minute volley from outside the box.

The Saudi Arabians equalised just before half-time before the game eventually went to a shoot-out which the Young Socceroos won 5-4 after their goalie saved the final shot of the match.

The Young Socceroos won all six of their matches, coming from behind twice in their 3-2 quarter-final win over Iraq and defeating Japan 2-0 in a semifinal.

They became the first Australian team to win a major football tournament since Ange Postecoglou’s Socceroos lifted the 2015 senior Asian Cup.
