Say yes to everything: School Captain

Say yes to everything: School Captain

Be as approachable as possible and say yes to everything – that’s the advice Trinity’s outgoing School Captain has passed on to his successor.

“When I was in the younger years I found the School Captains pretty intimidating,” Luca Gillard (13St) said in a chat with 2025 Captain Leo Vo (12WH).

“So I tried to be as accommodating as possible to the younger boys.

“I think the fact that I’m not that tall definitely helped!

“Having Year 7 boys say hi to me in the corridors … all those little things, I hope, helped me to leave the School better than I found it.”

Luca said one thing he and the 2024 Vice Captains targeted was rejuvenating the Trinity ethos of supporting the School’s sporting teams.

“From my perspective we did a really good job of that,” he said, citing a crowd of 350 boys at a basketball game where attendance was not compulsory.

“I think over the past year the culture of supporting our teams has really improved.”

Leo said he hoped to lead by example in encouraging students to get involved in the myriad of opportunities presented to them, a goal Luca fully supported.

“Say yes to everything,” said the outgoing captain.

“You will find a way to make it work.

“I probably said yes to too many things in Year 12; I was pressed for time a little bit.

“But I figured it out. I’m still here. I’m alive. It worked.”
