Weekend Sports Roundup – Last beats first for maiden basketball win

When the last-placed team beats the ladder leaders it makes everyone take notice, and that was the feat achieved by Trinity’s basketball seconds.

Their surprise 52-47 victory, their first of the season, led Trinity to a 27-13 record in all basketball matches against Barker at the weekend, and a 47-41 result overall in all sports.

That turned term four’s 37-48 outcome against the same school from a deficit into a plus.

The basketball firsts also won 97-84.

Cricket went down 4-6 in the 10 matches decided but the firsts won by 51 runs, scoring 182 to 131, with Sean Turner (12Mu) taking three wickets for 26.

The 7As and 10As both won, led respectively by Jackson Minceski’s (7La) unbeaten 52 and Ujwal Yadem’s (10Fo) 41 not out.

All Year 8 teams won as tennis came out all square 5-5, water polo won three but lost seven, including to Shore firsts 9-13, and touch football finished on top 5-4, with the Open As losing 0-3 to Waverley but defeating Cranbrook by the same margin.

Rhys Olson-Keating (11Ta) placed second in the NSWCIS triathlon at Sydney International Regatta Centre, with poor water quality reducing the event to a duathlon.

He also finished fourth in the NSW All Schools senior boys division.
