CAS Track & Field Championships 2023

92nd CAS Track & Field Championships – The Andrew Reid Challenge Cup
Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre
Thursday 14 September 2023

On a hot and sunny Spring afternoon and evening, our Track & Field squad took to Sydney Olympic Park with one goal in mind, completing a sixth successive Championship, a feat that had never been achieved before by the boys from Trinity Grammar School, and a feat that in the history of the competition has only been achieved three times before.

While M McLachlan (10WJ), J Cluff (9Ar), M McGroder (9WH) and P McMahon (7Du) were the stars of the night, taking down either CAS Records between them, it was the unliveable depth within our squad, that was talked about prior to the competition, and that carried the team through to the Championship. This was echoed in the comments made by a senior staff member later in the day, “What impressed me most was the depth of the squad. We may not be winning every event, but we very rarely drop back outside of the top 2 or 3.”

There were highlights in every event group, and wins in most, but the true highlight for most, was the Green and White Army in full voice in the stands. Ollie Hoare spoke to the squad earlier in the week about the crowd at the CAS Championships rivalling any that he has raced in front of around the world, and they certainly proved why. Their voice, encouragement, and unbridled manic passion, shone through and gave any Trinity boy that extra little bit of motivation they needed to push through, and pass that one runner in the straight, or launch that little bit further or higher in their field event.
