Weekend Sports Roundup – Rep selections for Trinity students

Representative honours in Aussie Rules and football, and a gold and silver medal in state fencing, provided bright sporting news on a weekend of heavy going against Knox.

Mason McGroder (9WH) and Callum Padman (10Hi) were part of the winning NSW CIS U15 AFL team and both have been picked in the NSW All Schools team to play in the national carnival in Ballarat in July.

George Kotronakis (11He) has been selected in the U16 NSW CIS football team to play in the NSW All Schools tournament.

Thomas Deller (10Ho) won gold and William Deller (11Ho) silver in the U18 men’s epee event at the NSW schools fencing championships.

But in weekend sport against Knox it was an uphill battle for Trinity teams, particularly in rugby, football and tennis.

Rugby had three wins and 13 losses, with the firsts and seconds both losing heavily 10-50 and 7-29.

Football had eight wins and 21 losses, with the firsts and seconds also suffering large defeats by 1-7 and 0-7.

The 7Bs registered the lone team victory in 22 tennis fixtures.

The volleyball firsts, seconds and thirds also lost but the 16A, B, and Cs all won.

The Aussie Rules firsts went down narrowly to Cranbrook 69-71 but the Year 7-8 team beat Waverley 33-20.

In the cross country Scots invitational event at Upjohn Park, the U16 and U14 teams both won, while the Open team finished eighth.

There were individual honours for Luca Gillard (11St), who finished third in the Open event, Kobe Stewart (9Yo) and Kobby Dankwa (10Ke), who came second and third respectively in the U16s, and Patrick McMahon (7Du), who placed second in the U14s.

The 8A debating team of Orlando Ang (8WJ), Benjamin De Lany (8Hi), David Lin (8Yo) and Ryan Qin (8Fo) won their ISDA grand final against Ravenswood.
