Weekend Sports Roundup – National Athletics Titles, Black and Green Shield

Trinity students and old boys were among the medals at the national track and field titles, taking a gold, silver and bronze.

Rohan Browning (2015) won the 100m title in Brisbane, clocking 10.02 seconds – the fastest time by an Australian in Australia.

It was just one-hundredth of a second outside his personal best and a confidence-booster in his aim to get under the 10-second barrier.

Connor Murphy (2019) won a silver medal in the triple jump, recording the same distance as the winner (16.61m) but losing on a countback.

Ben Stevens (12We) took the bronze medal in the under 20 shot put, and finished a creditable ninth with a personal best in the open category.

Jack Waide (12Ke) made the under 20 1500m final, finishing ninth, as well as coming ninth in the under 20 800m.

Finn Ramanauskas (12Ke) jumped a personal best to finish sixth in the under 20 high jump, flying to Brisbane to compete after playing rugby for Trinity on Saturday.

The rugby news at home wasn’t so upbeat as St Pat’s got the upper hand in eight of the 15 weekend matches.

St Pat’s also won 17 of the football matches to Trinity’s nine, with three drawn, and shared the table tennis spoils 1-1.

That meant St Pat’s retained the Black and Green Shield for the second year running.
