Viewing of the Perry Prize 2022 Exhibition with a special performance of Sound Drawings – Jody Graham & Mark Cauvin

See the works of 46 Finalists in the seventeenth Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing. A significant annual national art award, the 2022 Perry Prize received over 400 entries from artists from across the country. Judged by Dr Andrew Frost, writer, critic, curator and documentary maker.

Jody Graham, 2022 Perry Prize Winner, and Mark Cauvin perform a duet responding to each other’s creative practice. Mark is an improvisor and composer who plays the double bass and Jody is a multidisciplinary artist who draws with drawing tools she has made from discarded items.

> False Ornithologies and Unnatural Histories: Martin King
Martin King’s masterful, large-scale drawings invite us to step into other worlds. As a child, King recalls being captivated by the mystique of the lyre bird, its elusiveness and beauty of its tail feather display lending it a mythical status. In this mini-survey exhibition of the Melbourne artist’s work, it features prominently as part of King’s personal iconography alongside layered references to art and natural history that explore our complex relationship with the natural world.
> The Secret Language of Mountains: The Art of Isawdi
Isawdi (c1933 – 2019) was one of the most significant artists from Ömie territory in mountainous south eastern Papua New Guinea. This is the first solo exhibition of her work in Australia. Her drawings and barkcloth paintings contain an encyclopaedic knowledge of Ömie culture and cosmology. Guest curated by Brennan King, manager of Ömie Artists and close friend of the artist, the exhibition focusses on her late work from 2010 to 2018. It follows Delmar Gallery’s first exhibition of Ömie art held in 2020, Where Clouds are Spirit Parrots.
