A Message from the OTU President

The start of each year is a very busy period for the OTU. On Thursday 28th February, the Trinity / OTU Golf Day was held at Concord Golf Club. Apart from helping to raise funds for important programs within the school the Golf Day continues to be a great opportunity for old boys, parents and friends to connect. Thirty two teams of four played and it was a most enjoyable and rewarding experience, despite early rain – even for those, like myself, with little or no golfing experience. Craig Parry, current Australian Open Champion and Trinity parent, was the guest speaker at the dinner in the evening and also generously gave his time throughout the day to advise younger players. I would to thank the OTU committee for their efforts in organising this day and particularly Steve Heanly for the effort and enthusiasm with which he organises the various OTU activities throughout the year.

On Thursday 5th March, the OTU competed against the school in basketball, volleyball and cricket in what proved to be an entertaining day. The basketball and volley were see-sawing matches which the OTU eventually narrowly won (BB 93-92, VB 3 sets to 2). In the cricket, the OTU scored 156 runs which, due to tight bowling and fielding, from the OTU, proved to be an insurmountable total in the end, the school being all out for 118; making a clean sweep of the day to the OTU. Congratulations to all players for high level of skill demonstrated and the great sense of sportsmanship and good humour with which each match was played.

Ric Otton (1979)
President

Aims of the Old Trinitarians’ Union
Founded in 1917, the Old Trinitarian’s Union (OTU) is the largest family in the Trinity community. If a boy attends Trinity for any period of time (T-12) he automatically becomes an OTU Member.
The OTU is involved in a number of areas of Trinity Life, with two main aims:

  1. to help and support the School in its aims to provide a better education
  2. to help and support Old Boys of the School in their life after Trinity.

The OTU provides resources to assist students at the School with help from experienced people who are willing to devote their time and energy to make Trinity’s education better. It is also a life long attachment to a support structure for students once they have left the School, both to keep them in touch with their friends and to practically assist them to further their lives in the wider community.

The School’s Director of Community Relations also works with the OTU to assist Alumni in organising various activities and events, including Class and Regional Reunions, as well as various fundraising activities for the School.
