Academic Support Teacher Full Time (Years 3 to 6)
Trinity Grammar School, Strathfield Campus
Commencing January 2010
An excellent opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and organised teacher with qualifications in Special Education to join the staff of Trinity Grammar School from the beginning of 2010.
The successful applicant will be required to co-ordinate the Support Programmes at the Preparatory School, with particular emphasis on Years 3 to 6. A willingness to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and parents and provide a flexible range of interventions is essential. They will be responsible directly to the Master of the Preparatory School and will work closely with the Head of Department – Trinity Educational Support Services, School Psychologists and the Director of Teaching and Learning K to 6.
It is expected that all staff at Trinity Grammar School participate fully in the School’s sporting and co-curricular programme.
General Information
Trinity Grammar School is the largest Anglican Boys' day and boarding School in NSW with an enviable reputation and tradition for serving the educational needs of boys and young men over a number of generations. The School has campuses located in Strathfield (Preparatory School), Summer Hill (Senior, Middle and Junior School), Lewisham (Infants’ School) and Pine Bluff (Outdoor Education Centre on the Abercrombie River). Since its founding in 1913, Trinity has forged a reputation for outstanding academic results, a caring pastoral programme and an emphasis on both traditional and community sports. Trinity has an enrolment of some 2,000 boys.
The Senior School is a member of the Combined Associated Schools of New South Wales and joins in the CAS Sports competition, while the Preparatory School and Junior School are members of the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia and participates in the IPSHA Sports and Cultural activities.
All members of staff are appointed by the Head Master and they are responsible to him for the overall performance of their duties. The Head Master delegates his authority to senior staff members for the effective management of the School.

The mission of Trinity Grammar School is to provide a thoroughly Christian education for its boys, imparting knowledge and understanding of the world in which we live, and recognising the importance of spiritual qualities in every sphere of learning and living. 1. Specific Duties/Responsibilities
- The Support Teacher Learning Years 3 - 6 at the Preparatory School is directly responsible to the Master of the Preparatory School for carrying out the day to day duties.
- To work closely with, and support, the corporate philosophy of the T.E.S.S. Department and other members of the School’s Educational Support Team including: School Counsellors, T.E.S.S. Co-ordinator, ESL teacher and the Director of Teaching and Learning.
- The Support Teacher Learning Years 3 - 6 will co-ordinate the Support Programmes at the Preparatory School, with particular emphasis on Years 3 - 6.
- A willingness to work collaboratively with classroom teachers and parents and provide a flexible range of interventions as needs change is essential.
2. School Level
- Design and implement in collaboration with the School’s visiting Speech Pathologist, Language Programmes for groups of language delayed students
- Design and implement Literacy and Numeracy programmes for groups of students with difficulties
- Maintain student files with relevant information
- Disseminate information at Parent/Teacher Nights
3. Programme Level
- Understand and be able to consult in developing differentiated curricular based in mainstream classrooms
- Maintain ongoing communication with the T.E.S.S. co-ordinator on the progress of students and parents and teacher interviews
- Contribute to the maintenance of the T.E.S.S. system
- Assist with Literacy assessment
- Report on content of Inservices and conferences attended
- Document programming for all Academic Support (3-6) areas
- Develop, resource, train and supervise teacher assistants, parent volunteers and student tutors in reading programmes - Awareness of Multilit, Rainbow Reading and Reading Recovery
4. Teacher Level
- Consult with and offer programming assistance to classroom teachers
- Provide and advise on resource materials to teachers
- Assist teachers with assessments
- Team teach and take small groups where applicable
- Keep records of teacher interviews
5. Student Level
- Administer diagnostic and standardised tests
- Develop IEPs in consultation with classroom teacher
- Determine placement of students, monitor, redesign and post test of IEPs
- Maintain in depth student profiles
- Monitor, assess and report on student for Yearly and Half Yearly reports Facilitate peer tutoring
6. Parent Level
- Interview parents
- Maintain records of parent interviews
- Provide and instruct on use of suitable resources for home use
