Introduction
At Trinity in Years 11 and 12 students have the opportunity to select
a Vocational Educational course instead of the normal Board of Studies
courses or International Baccalaureate courses offered here at the School.
There are 3 categories of courses available for students:
- Framework Courses
- Board Developed Courses
- Non- Framework (Content Endorsed) Courses
All courses are drawn from TAFE certificate courses, provide students
with industry recognition and national accreditation, and most matriculate
into a higher-level TAFE course. Most courses count as 2 unit HSC courses.
Framework Courses
There are 8 industry framework courses available in 2003, 2 of which (Hospitality
and Building Construction) can be studied at Trinity Grammar School within
the normal School timetable.
Other courses, which are undertaken at TAFE Colleges, include: Information
Technology, Retail, Entertainment, and Tourism. These courses are based
on national training packages and provide students with the opportunity
of gaining a Certificate 1 or II (AQF). If a student studies the same
framework course for 2 years and undertakes the Board of Studies HSC examination,
the mark can be used in the calculation of their UAI.
Board Developed Course
The Accounting 2 unit course, which can only be studied at a TAFE College,
has been developed by the Board of Studies, and, as such, can be used
in the calculation of a student’s UAI.
Non-Framework (Content Endorsed) Courses
Both Year 11 and 12 students can study these courses. These courses count
as 2 units of study and most can be studied for either 1 or 2 years. Some
of the courses currently enjoyed by Trinity students include:
- Automotive
- Aviation
- Real Estate
- Sport and Recreation
- Fitness Instruction
- Autobody Repair
- Design
- Photography
Course Location
Most courses are held in one afternoon per week from 1.30PM to 5.30PM.
Most Trinity students undertaking a Non-Framework course attend the Sydney Institute of TAFE, Ultimo.
A Vocational Education course provides many students with:
- a focus during their final 2 years of school
- exposes them to a different, and more adult, independent learning environment
