Swimming
Swimming and Summer sport - a traditional combination seen every year
at Trinity, with outstanding performances by the boys in both the CAS
Championship, and State Championships. The heated covered pool allows boys to train all year.
Swimming Report - 17th March, 2006
Our summer season of sporting activities came to a most exciting and satisfying conclusion last Friday night, with the 75th CAS Annual Swimming & Diving Championships held at the Sydney International Aquatic Centre. The Diving competition proved to be a tense battle right throughout the night, with the overall outcome literally dependent upon the last round of dives from our senior competitors. To secure victory, and thereby record the School’s 24th successive CAS Diving Championship, speaks highly about our divers and their Coach and mentor, Mr Martin Lang. The CAS General Committee had earlier endorsed the establishment of a Diving Trophy for the winner of the competition, to be named The Stephen Barnett Trophy (a Trinity Old Boy who is currently representing Australia in Diving at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne) made the success of the Diving Team even more memorable, as did the presence of Stephen on the night, who came along to encourage our boys.
The courageous efforts of our swimming team, in light of the numerous setbacks they have encountered in terms of injuries this year, yielded results beyond anyone’s reasoned expectations. The swimmers' dominated the pool to win for a third year in a row. The team’s comprehensive performance on the night saw them win with a 62-point winning margin, between Trinity and our nearest rivals, Knox Grammar School. The depth of the team’s performance is further underscored by these interesting statistics – of the 73 events competed in, Trinity swimmers finished in the top 3 places in 64 events, with no sixth places being registered.
