SNOWSPORTS REPORT | 2007
First of all, congratulations to all who competed for Trinity Grammar School in Snow Sports in 2007. Your efforts are appreciated and it is sincerely hoped that you enjoyed yourself as part of the coolest co-curricular at the School!
The lead up events of the Scots Cup and Redlands Cup saw an introduction to racing for a few new members of the Trinity Grammar School Snow Sports Team. It was great to see Patrick Downey (7WH) Oscar Griffith (7Yo), Grant Knapman (7Fo) and Nino Elcic (11La) compete for Trinity in these practice events.
Snow Sport racing is becoming very, very competitive at the Sydney Division, with big teams such as Scots, Redlands and the Shore School fielding large teams that are part of snow racing schools which compete internationally each summer in Canada and Europe. These schools certainly set the bar very high to receive an invitation to the State Championships. Credit must be given to all of our boys, who go out and give it their best shot without the same level of training. Trinity Grammar School is recognised as a competitive and tough opponent in all forms of the competition.
Highlight of the week had to be the winning of the Skier X by our Division 1 team consisting of Jans Fraser (10He), Lachlan Lazar (10WJ), Thomas Craig (10Ar).
Thomas Craig was awarded by New South Wales Alpine the Award of Excellence as the fastest Skier in Division 1 who was not in a race club. An outstanding effort by Thomas!
Good work from some younger racers, including Patrick Kenney, Lynden Thorne (8He) and Nicholas Kluktewicz (8Ke). Stephen Walton (9Fo) has obviously improved and I think is ready to take the next step in racing. Keep up the good work, Stephen!
Our Division 1 Snowboard team of Aaron Fleming (11Sc), Mathew Wise (11Ar) Nick Ryan (11Ta) and Nino Elcic all competed very well with some individual good times, although not combining to produce the best team times. Alex Kluktewicz (10Ke), Chris Woodruff (10Ta) and Mark Shoebridge (10Yo) also did extremely well and should be invited along to State through the repechage system. This is an exciting group as there are some good boarders amongst them. They must come together to make a team performance to gain a podium finish in 2008.
During the State Finals at Perisher our teams competed very well in brilliant conditions. Highlights of the weekend were Mathew Bull (4HIL), who is not only Trinity Grammar School’s youngest-ever competitor, but is also the first-ever Cross Country competitor, winning his Skate race. Congratulations Mathew! Again our Division 1 Alpine and Skier X teams did extremely well. These boys achieved a top 3 finish in their respective races and the highly-desired invitation to the National Snow Sports Finals at Falls Creek.
At Falls Creek in Spring conditions, Trinity Grammar School was well represented. Mathew Bull was very unlucky not to finish on the podium – finishing in 4th in the Cross Country Classic. Our Division 1 Skier X and Alpine team have done remarkably well to make it to this level, as they are in Year 11 and most of their opposition are in Year 12. They finished 6th and 7th respectively with Thomas Craig and Jans Fraser finishing in the top 20 in the country. A really good effort, boys! Well done.
Congratulations to all boys. You have done a fantastic job in representing Trinity. A huge thank you to all the parents who worked hard in getting the boys onto the slopes. Any boy wishing to race next year, is more than welcome to join the coolest Co-Curricular!

SNOWSPORTS REPORT | 2006
First of all, congratulations to all who competed for Trinity Grammar School in Snow Sports this season. Your efforts are appreciated and it is sincerely hoped that you enjoyed yourself as part of the coolest co-curricular at the school.
The regional event at Perisher Blue is based around participation. Trinity Grammar School sent a team of 35 competitors down to compete over the six disciplines of Skier X, Boarder X, Alpine, Giant Slalom, Moguls and Cross Country.
Competition from the other schools was good making it tough to gain entry into the sort after state competition. In skiing, Reece
Kooijman(12WJ), Mathew White(12YO), Mathew Wise(10AR), John Hogan(9ST) and Mitchel King(9KE) all posted good times in their respective competitions.
In Snowboarding our division 2 teams consisting of Nick Ryan(10TA), Alex Kluktwicz(9KE), Chris Woodruff(9TA), Angus Griffith, Aaron Flemming(10SC), Jake Kelly9(HE) and Mark Shoebridge(9YO) also did extremely well, as some of these had not raced before. This is an exciting group as there are some good boarders amongst them. This is a group to watch in 2007.
The very competitive State Finals at Thredbo, in what can only be described as poor conditions, were fruitful for Trinity Grammar School. Lachlan Lazar (10WH) Jans Fraser (10HE) Thomas Craig (10AR) took on the Skier X course. Lachlan tore down the mountain as the first of his team of three competitors. He posted a great time – throwing down the gauntlet to those after him and giving great confidence to the rest of his team-mates. The preceding two times were very competitive and combining with Lachlan’s hot time the boys were deemed State Champions. CONGRATULATIONS BOYS! Lachlan’s time ended up being the fastest of the day and therefore individually was the champion for this event. Congratulations to Jans and Thomas who finished individually in the top 10 within the state for Alpine and are invited to the National Titles.
Curran Brennan (12DUL) put in some solid times in the Snowboarding Giant Slalom and Boarder X however finished just outside the top 10 and receiving the much-desired invitation to the National. Well-done Curran.
A huge congratulations to the Division 2 Skier X team who at the National Titles at Perisher finished 3rd. This is a fantastic effort to finishing on the podium amongst the best in Australia. The strength of this group is their team approach; each competitor is equally contributing to their common goal. A great result!
SNOWSPORTS REPORT | 2005
 |
Trinity is becoming a force to be reckoned with on the
snow. The overall fifth placing is a great result for Trinity
which fields a small team in comparison with some of the big skiing
schools. This is the best result for Trinity Grammar School in the
history of the School’s competing in Snow Sports competitions.
Eight teams made it through to |
| the State Championships after the Regional NSW Inter
Schools Championships. |
On the Snowboarding front, invitations were extended
to the Division One Snowboarder Giant Slalom team of Curran Brennan, Ben
Turner and Michael Kluktewicz and the Div 3 Snowboarder team of Lachlan
Morton, Alex Kluktewicz and Chris Woodruff, in the two disciplines of
Boarder X and Giant Slalom. This is a great result as Snowboarding has
a small team at Trinity.
In Skiing, the Division 2 Team of Lachlan Lazar, Tom
Craig and Jans Fraser made it through in Moguls and Skier X with Reis
Fleming joining these three to go through in the Alpine event. Boden Lazar,
Rainer Scheurer and David Tralagan were invited to participate in the
State for Moguls with Reece Kooijman combining with Boden and Rainer in
the Skier X discipline.
The most outstanding fact about our team is that every team member
has improved his times since last year by considerable amount. Perhaps
the most notable was Rainer Scheurer who had his best week on the snow
in his six years of representing Trinity, but special mention must go
to Tim Arvinitis, Ben Warren, William Bean, Matthew Harrison, Stephen
Walton, Patrick Kenny, Stephen McDonell, Eden Meena and the
ever-versatile Reis Fleming. Many of these boys have several years
ahead of them representing the School and the future is looking
very bright indeed.
The Snow Sports team would welcome any students who ski and board to join
the team, which represents the School proudly each year. Many of the students
who competed this year were first time racers and they enjoyed the spirit
of the team, both on the snow and in the village at night.
