Cross Country Report
11th August, 2005
Last Saturday, in conjunction with Cranbrook and Waverley, we hosted the CAS Cross Country Championships at Sydney Park, St. Peters. The weather was superb, as was the standard of both competition and results. The prestigious Teams Event in each category finished as follows:

Under 14s:
1st: Trinity 2nd: St. Aloysius’ 3rd: Barker
Under 16s:
1st: Knox 2nd: Trinity 3rd: Barker
Opens:
1st: Barker 2nd: Knox 3rd: Trinity

The U/14 team who finished atop the podium comprised Robert Lister (7He), Hayden Lammiman (8WJ), Guy Lewis (8Mu) and Phillip Mugridge (7WJ). Unfortunately Cameron Borwick (7WJ), who has been running superbly all season, having an injury to his knee failed to finish. Phillip ran a determined and impressive race to keep Trinity in the hunt for a medal after Cameron retired! These boys have all been absolutely outstanding throughout the season. Special mention must be made of Robert and Hayden, who finishing with the sensational individual places of 2nd and 3rd respectively were on the podium in the Individual and Teams categories. Even more weight is added to this accomplishment with the realisation that Robert would be competing in the 12years category and Hayden would be in the 13years category, had these existed last Saturday. The Individual Winner from St Aloysius’ was two years older than Robert and one year older than Hayden!

Our U/16 team were also impressive! Anthony Nasser (11St), Jeremy Hart (10Ar), Haydn Lewis (10Mu) and Jonathon Keene (10Ta) all maintained the high standard that we have come to expect from them throughout the 2005 Cross Country season and helped them to a fine team 2nd placing.
Despite receiving a thorough drubbing yet again, at the hands of Barker, in the Opens race, the Trinity quartet of Ryan Bonnici (11WJ), Michael Lloyd (12Hi), Thomas Coats (12Hi) and David Tralaggan (12We) just managed to cling onto a spot on the dias as they finished with the commendable result of a team 3rd placing. It has been most enjoyable having the opportunity to run with these Open athletes, such fine young men on a weekly basis over the past few years and we wish our departing senior athletes all the best for the future.

2005 proved to be another successful year for the Trinity Cross Country fraternity and I would like to thank the support given by many parents on Saturdays and to our own Cross Country staff and coaches; Mrs Kerr, Luke Schafer, Thomas Do Canto, Mr Pierce, Mr Leckie and Mr Dobbs. I must also thank Michael Lloyd, as he proved to be an outstanding role model and Captain of the sport this year. I look forward to the 2006 Cross Country season as another opportunity to witness the varied successes of our athletes, be it in actual results or the even more substantial goal, of developing a love of running! It is surprisingly addictive!
