SCHOOL & COMMUNITY SUPPORT GROUP

Master-in-Charge: Mrs Heather Bootle (Term 1, 2009)

The School and Community Support Group helps with the weekly collection of waste paper for recycling purposes at the Summer Hill Campus.  In Term 4 2006, the School introduced recycling of plastics and aluminium, and, again, the members of the group are involved in overseeing the collection of these recyclables.  It is also planned to open up opportunities for service unrelated to the environment within the School and off campus.

The aims of the School and Community Support Group are for participants:

  • to look beyond their own personal interests and see the needs of the School community and the Australian society as a whole.
  • to be involved in activities that benefit others more than themselves, or that benefit themselves only long-term or indirectly.

Areas of involvement for participants include:

  • collecting all kinds of recyclable materials at the School.
  • raising of the School communities awareness for environmental issues through presentations at Assemblies and public displays.
  • assisting various service providers on-campus (food outlets, library, clerical staff, maintenance staff).
  • assisting various service providers off-campus (nursing homes, hospitals, charities, churches).

Meeting Details:
Friday afternoons from 3.05pm to 4.50pm, or other times as arranged.
