Boys who speak English as their second language may be invited to do ESL as their co-curricular activity. The aim of the programme is to develop the boys’ oral and social skills in English. In a relaxed atmosphere the boys are encouraged to read for pleasure. A wide variety of reading material, including daily newspapers, magazines, journals and recipe books, is made available. As well, the boys are encouraged to view current affairs and news programmes to develop their critical thinking skills and expand their vocabulary. There is an emphasis on enjoyment, with the boys developing their listening skills and improving their grammar while listening to song lyrics and music. As well, boys view appropriate films to improve their visual literacy and to support work being studied in the classroom. The ESL programme assists boys to explore their interests, build their self-confidence and improve their English. Meeting Details:
