Computer Essentials Checklist
The teachers will tick the box when you have demonstrated the tasks.
All boxes must be ticked by a teacher before the end of term 1.
Computer Management Skills
- Access and exit from programs.
- Maximize and minimize programs.
- Save a file/s to your h/:(home directory)
- Retrieve a file from your h/:(home directory)
- Copy a file from your h/: to your floppy disk
- Retrieve a file from your floppy disk and copy it back to your h/:
- Organise files, by creating folders and moving and sorting the files.
Word Processing Skills
- Make all headings in appropriate font and size 24.
- Make all other text in Times New Roman font and size 12.
- Bold and put text in italics.
- Underline text.
- Centre text.
- Justify text.
- Create page borders.
- Add headers and footers to a page.
- Add page numbers.
- Use spell check.
- Make paragraphs.
- Cut, copy and paste text.
- Insert appropriate clipart images.
- Insert appropriate images from a file.
- Insert appropriate images from the Internet.
- Resize and move images.
- Format images.
- Put a caption under an image.
- Create and modify WordArt.
- Add entries to a bibliography.
- Save at regular intervals.
Touch Typing Skills
- Type a least 15WPM, using at least 16 different keys, in exercise
8, with the Type to Learn program.
Legal/Ethical Skills
- Demonstrate appropriate use of computers.
- Obey copyright laws.
- Follow the School Policy regarding technology.
