ENROLMENT
Students wishing to enrol in the Instrumental Music Programme for the first time should complete an “Enrolment for New Students Form”. These are also available from the Music Department Office. Demand for places in the programme could exceed availability and it is recommended that you lodge the enrolment form as soon as possible.

Students who are already enrolled in the Instrumental Tuition Programme will automatically be re-enrolled at the beginning of the new calendar year unless written notice of cancellation is received no later than 31st December, prior to the commencement of the New Year.

FEES

  • Fees are set annually based on the recommended fee for private music teacher in New South Wales. These fees will be charged with the School Tuition at the end of each term
  • Failure to pay fees will result in tuition being discontinued.
  • Students entering the programme after the beginning of a term will be billed accordingly.

Fees for instrumental tuition in 2008 is $36 for a half-hour lesson, which is charged with other School fees on the term account issued by the Bursar’s Office. (Please note the music fees are always billed in arrears after the lessons have taken place)

SCHOLARSHIPS
There are a number of scholarships available for music at Trinity Grammar School. These scholarships vary in their requirements and expectations as well as in the specific funding terms. Scholarships are available at the Preparatory School, Junior School, Middle and Senior Schools for a variety of purposes. In addition we are also able, through the Trinity Cultural Association, to provide scholarships to boys who have completed year 12 and wish to pursue their musical studies.

The Trinity Society of the Arts Denham Court Scholarship (Preparatory School)
The Trinity Cultural Association Donald Holder Scholarship (Junior School)
The Music/Academic Scholarships (Boys entering at year 7)(PDF 65KB)
The Instrumental Scholarship (Middle and Senior Schools)
The Society of Arts Scholarship for Musicians in year 12
The Trinity Cultural Association Music Leavers Scholarship (Post year 12)

SCHOLARSHIP OUTCOME
All students who are on music scholarships are expected to take part in the instrumental and choral programme of the School and to perform such duties related to this programme as directed by the Head Master or the Director of Music. Owing to the large number of musically talented boys coming to the School, Scholarships of this nature are awarded only to boys whose musical aptitude and inclinations, are well above average. It is further expected that Scholarship holders will be boys whose character would gain the respect of other musicians in the School.

The selected student should demonstrate throughout the year of the Scholarship, both individually and in ensemble:

  • Consistently accurate reading of notation, metre, tempi, dynamics and phrasing, to produce performances, whether
solo or in ensemble, that are fluent and convincing.
  • Consistently demonstrate their developing technical proficiency on the chosen instrument.
  • Always attempt to perform expressively and with perception, demonstrating sensitivity towards the music performed in order to effectively communicate the mood and character of the music.

THE TRINITY SOCIETY OF THE ARTS DENHAM COURT SCHOLARSHIP (Preparatory School)
&
THE TRINITY CULTURAL ASSOCIATION DONALD HOLDER SCHOLARSHIP (Junior School)

Both of the above scholarships provide the funds to cover the cost of a years individual music lessons. At the Preparatory School two scholarships are awarded annually, at the Junior School one scholarship is awarded annually. Auditions are held during term 4 of each year for boys due to enter year 6 the following year.
Applications for the scholarships will be in writing from the parent/guardian and may contain additional supporting evidence in the form of references and copies of certificates.
From time to time there will be a need in the music department for a particular instrument. An outstanding student who auditions on another instrument may be invited to change to the required instrument.
A panel is assembled and chaired by the Director of Music. The decisions of the panel are final. Should the winner of the Scholarship, for any reason, be unable to take it up the following year, the Director of Music will nominate another student to take his place.

AUDITION ASSESSMENT
Students demonstrate their ability in the following areas:
Technique

  • Technical facility
  • Clarity and articulation

Interpretation
